Gone Girl [a book x movie review]

By now you've seen the trailers for Gone Girl and possibly even seen the movie..or read the book.

I both read the book and watched the movie and I must say to my surprise I was very impressed by the movie's depiction of the book.
Since reading the book I have gotten over my initial betrayal so when watching the movie I really tried to focus on how true to the story the big screen depicted. Aside from a few very minor details like Tanner Bolt's wife not being included and Neil Patrick Harris wasn't exactly how I pictured Desi to be, everything else was pretty dead on.

Ben Afleck was pretty much exactly who I pictured in my mind as Nick when reading the book so it was a pleasant surprise that he was able to capture the essence of Nick to a T.

Rosamund Pike perfectly captured Amy's crazy eyes and psychotic behavior as well. I especially enjoyed her pudding eating scenes for some odd reason. I felt like it really mimicked how I felt Amy was acting in the book.

I would also like to note how much I liked the actual promotion of the movie. The trailers really evoked chills as well as the www.findamazingamy.com teaser page.

If only all book to movie adaptations could do as good a job as this one. *hint hint 50 shades of grey*

[A Brief Review] No Good Deed ~Spoilers~

I saw No Good Deed recently. It was honestly everything I expected it to be.
First I would like to say, major props to Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson for channeling their inner soap opera actors and injecting endless amounts of awkward drama into the plot.

The movie begins and you can immediately sense that Terri's (Henson) character is in need of some soul searching as she in the midst of some obvious relationship troubles, while her husband prepares to "go on a golfing trip" with his father. Of course, a storm is coming and she will be left alone in her house in the storm with the children.

Terri has a best friend, Meg, who offers some comic relief throughout the film and shows up at just the right moments.

There is a major plot twist at the end that you may or may not see coming. SPOILER COMING....Throughout the movie you think he is at Terri's house coincidentally, because his car actually crashed near by, when REALLY he showed up at her house very purposefully. but I will leave it at that.

I would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars because it keeps your attention and the entertainment of it makes you overlook the cheesy factor. It could have been worse. 

[Movie Review] Guardians of the Galaxy/Chris Pratt Appreciation post

 I will attempt to make this more of a review of Guardians of the Galaxy and not a Chris Pratt appreciation post.

I'm not really one for movies derived from comic books but GotG had a much different vibe than I expected. It was filled with snarky comments and clever puns that was great comic relief from the action.

All of the characters had lovable qualities which is really what made the movie for me.

First of all Groot. Probably Vin Deisels best piece of work. Then baby Groot?? *swoons*
Zoe Saldana, beautiful, talented and terrifying at the same time. And for some reason always painted.
Bradley Cooper has never been cuter than when he is portraying a raccoon.
Dave Bautista was huge and sexy..and seemed sort of like an add on. Drax's character didn't make very much sense to me but at the same time I'm not versed in any Marvel comic books or story lines.

I have had a thing for Chris Pratt since like 2011 and it's so crazy to me that he is now a huge star. The only complaint I have about the movie is that Starlord seemed suspiciously similar to a certain Andy Dwyer. Same sense of humor and quirkiness. I would love to see Chris branch out and explore different styles of acting. I'd love to see more "Zero Dark Thirty" Pratt. But I digress.

I would definitely reccommend Guardians of the Galaxy if you are into superhero movies. If not, it's a great flick to have on the in the background of other activities you are partaking in. 

[Movie Review] As Above, So Below

I love this time of year, not because of the amazing gloomy weather, or impending darkness that is fall and winter, but because of the influx of scary movies as Halloween approaches.

I love a GOOD scary movie.

That being said. As Above, So Below was a lazy attempt at what could have been a great horror movie. The whole documentary-style horror flick, that abruptly explains the whole journey has been done to death and this movie barely stood out among similar titles.

The premise of the story was good. A smart girl is looking to somewhat avenge her fathers dead in search of a hidden artifact that he dedicated his life to finding. Her and a filmmaker and a group of other young people break into the underground catacombs of Paris and end up literally crawling through the gates of hell, despite MANY warning signs that they should not do what they are inevitably going to do anyways, they carry on. Many of them die. A few survive. The movie ends very abruptly.

The scariest part of the movie was imaging yourself in the position of the characters. It was actually a terrifying scenario to be in. Claustrophobia, darkness, and well being in hell.
The majority of the scary parts were actually given away in the trailer.

One thing that really bothers me is when movies take a documentary-style approach is when they add a score and sound effects. It really kills the illusion.

All in all. If you love scary movies, I would recommend watching this movie on Netflix..if you already have an account..and no spend any money trying to do so. Basically it was pretty unmemorable.

Harry grows Horns

In case you don't know, I'm a self-proclaimed Harry Potter fanatic. So of course I was super excited to see this trailer premiere at ComiCon. Danny plays a guy who is accused of murdering his girlfriend and then..grows horns? It all seems very weird but I'm obviously still going to see it. At one point he has a snake around his neck, which I mean..come ON...heir of Slytherin??

I'm still not a fan of his American accent. But I digress.
