Netflix Binge: A kind of in-depth analysis of the 7 seasons of Gilmore Girls

On October 1, Netflix dropped the entire series of Gilmore Girls for the world to enjoy. Now, I used to watch Gilmore Girls pretty religiously as a tween but there is something to be said about a show that I was just as excited to watch as a 23 year old as I was when I was 14. While watching I had so many thoughts about the characters, the show itself, the writing, the acting, and the overall style of so the show itself.

It must be extremely frustrating to watch TV shows with me so luckily all I do is watch TV by myself because I notice things like how talented the writers of this show are. (I was super excited to accidentally notice Jenji Kohan's name in the credits for the first time)

But honestly, how thick must the scripts for this show be?? and how much research went in to writing the dialog for each episode. I mean lets just focus on Lane for a second. Did they hire a music expert to write all of Lane's musical knowledge on the show? And even Loralei and Rory have seen basically every movie known to man kind and can drop a reference so quick that you don't even catch most of them. I found myself making lists of all of the movies I need to see in order to get to their level.

And it's not even the main characters. The entire show is full of quick wit and banter in every scene. Even Emily Gilmore goes off on the occasional tangent before coming back down to earth and resuming the normal conversation.

One thing I love about this show is the fact that the main cast remains virtually unchanged throughout the entire series. And the cast members that are added fit flawlessly for the most part. Cast members that seemed to have left the show almost always made reappearances, and with the exception of dean, you're pretty happy or content with how they turned out. I am mostly talking about Jess. His short comeback towards the end of the series put me at ease that even though he fucked up early on, he really turned his life around and ended up doing what he loves. You always knew he had a good head on his shoulders and he just needed to move past the teenage angst and he did and it was so reassuring. Part of me wishes that we had seen what became of Dean but at the same time, I never really missed Dean anyways. After he and Rory broke up the second time, following their brief stint of adultery I really started to hate him and was kind of glad to see him go.

I also love seeing the different relationships of the characters develop. And I'm not just talking romantic relationships. A few noteworthy pairings that came a loonnnnggg way throughout the series.

Lane & Mrs. Kim
Luke & Kirk
Loralei & Luke
Loralei & The Gilmores
Rory & Paris

I could write a whole damn book on Rory and Paris because they're friendship was the most surprising yet the most inevitable. They drove healthy competition out of each other that originally stemmed from hatred for each other but in the end actually benefitted the both of them and created what I like to think is a life long friendship.

Everyone can learn a little something from this show and although it lacks a lot of POC I feel like its pretty relatable across the board. The characters themselves are so diverse that it's hard to not relate to at least one of them.

I will end this psot with a list of all of Kirk's jobs in Stars Hallow because yes I attempted to keep a running list.
DSL internet installer
Alarm system salesman
Cashier at Doosies
Swan deliverer
Bike transportation business
Mailman

Quote t-shirt salesman
Wrapping paper salesman
Termite checker/exterminator
Wedding photographer
Event skydiver
"yummy" bartender business

Re-enactor for various town events
Ring salesman

I have undoubtably missed some so please fill me in.

Gone Girl [a book x movie review]

By now you've seen the trailers for Gone Girl and possibly even seen the movie..or read the book.

I both read the book and watched the movie and I must say to my surprise I was very impressed by the movie's depiction of the book.
Since reading the book I have gotten over my initial betrayal so when watching the movie I really tried to focus on how true to the story the big screen depicted. Aside from a few very minor details like Tanner Bolt's wife not being included and Neil Patrick Harris wasn't exactly how I pictured Desi to be, everything else was pretty dead on.

Ben Afleck was pretty much exactly who I pictured in my mind as Nick when reading the book so it was a pleasant surprise that he was able to capture the essence of Nick to a T.

Rosamund Pike perfectly captured Amy's crazy eyes and psychotic behavior as well. I especially enjoyed her pudding eating scenes for some odd reason. I felt like it really mimicked how I felt Amy was acting in the book.

I would also like to note how much I liked the actual promotion of the movie. The trailers really evoked chills as well as the www.findamazingamy.com teaser page.

If only all book to movie adaptations could do as good a job as this one. *hint hint 50 shades of grey*

Big Bang Theory! Season 8 Premiere

The season 8 premiere of Big Bang Theory was this past Monday.
I am very much looking forward to some of the changes that are coming with this season, however judging from the first two episodes of the season I will be interested to see how the rest of the season actually plays out.

Things that are new in season 8:
Sheldon is now a professor, rather than a researcher
Sheldon has "said" he wants to engage in coitus with Amy (!!!!!!)
Penny has a new haircut
Penny has a new job yay!
Raj finally has a lady friend
The comic book store has burned down and Stuart is now living with Howard's mother

Things that are still the same:
Sheldon still makes you want to punch him in the face.
Howard creepily confuses Bernadette and his mother. and also makes you want to punch him in the face.
Sheldon is still annoying and hates change (i.e Penny's new haircut)
Awkward Amy/Bernadette tension
Amy putting up with Sheldons b***s***

This season still seems to be very much Sheldon-centric, which to be honest got old about 3 seasons ago. In the words of Seth Meyers, Jim Parsons IS worth every penny of the MILLION dollars an episode he is making, but honestly, there is not much more depth to Sheldon's character than what we have seen so far. That is unless the writers decide to make some drastic changes..like maybe giving him and Amy a sexual(?!?) relationship.
I would also love to see way more of Stuart. His current lines are pure gold and I think the show definitely needs more Stuart...and not in the context of sexual innuendo between him and Howard's mom.

Watch the season premiere here + one more new episode here!

New episodes are every Monday 8pm EDT on CBS!

[A Brief Review] No Good Deed ~Spoilers~

I saw No Good Deed recently. It was honestly everything I expected it to be.
First I would like to say, major props to Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson for channeling their inner soap opera actors and injecting endless amounts of awkward drama into the plot.

The movie begins and you can immediately sense that Terri's (Henson) character is in need of some soul searching as she in the midst of some obvious relationship troubles, while her husband prepares to "go on a golfing trip" with his father. Of course, a storm is coming and she will be left alone in her house in the storm with the children.

Terri has a best friend, Meg, who offers some comic relief throughout the film and shows up at just the right moments.

There is a major plot twist at the end that you may or may not see coming. SPOILER COMING....Throughout the movie you think he is at Terri's house coincidentally, because his car actually crashed near by, when REALLY he showed up at her house very purposefully. but I will leave it at that.

I would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars because it keeps your attention and the entertainment of it makes you overlook the cheesy factor. It could have been worse.

[A Brief Review] Souled Out - Jhene Aiko

This month Jhene Aiko dropped her debut studio album "Souled Out". I was a big fan of "sailing souls" and "Sail Out" so it's exciting to see her finally release a studio album.

On first listen, it sounds pretty much EXACTLY like all of her previous stuff. Really mellow, trance-y, music you just chill to. And I get it, it's her style and its what makes her unique as a female artist so I can't be mad at that. I kind of wish that the album had more of a unique sound in comparison to her other works but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy listening to the album. It kind of reminds me of if Drake were a woman and released a straight R&B album. Really emotional, raw and honest. I was hoping for more songs like "Comfort Inn Freestyle" but I feel like a song like that comes out at just the right moment and it's hard to force emotion like that for a studio album.

It's one of those albums that you can listen to in the background of what you're doing and it doesn't really get in the way of anything. I wish I could say that I was blown away but I don't really know what I was expecting. The songs all sound extremely similar and tend to blend together, which makes the album flow really well, but it kind of just plays like one really really long song. If you're not actively paying attention, you won't know what song you're listening to, or how many songs have passed.

Overall it was solid and had good vibes but I was unimpressed and bored listening to it.

Notable songs that I enjoyed:
To Love & Die ft. Cocaine 80's
Lyin King
Brave
Pretty Bird ft. Common
Blue Dream
But my opinion means nothing. Listen for yourself.

Broad City drops a new web clip! [The Epcot of Cereal]

A new web clip of Broad City came out today and it's just as glorious as I would have thought. In said clip, Ilana and Abbi are video-chatting and eating cereal.

I can't express how ready I am for new episodes!! [Coming January 2015]

Luckily in the meantime you can eat 5 different types of cereal while watching the ENTIRE first season on CC.com.

You're welcome!

[Movie Review] Guardians of the Galaxy/Chris Pratt Appreciation post

I will attempt to make this more of a review of Guardians of the Galaxy and not a Chris Pratt appreciation post.

I'm not really one for movies derived from comic books but GotG had a much different vibe than I expected. It was filled with snarky comments and clever puns that was great comic relief from the action.

All of the characters had lovable qualities which is really what made the movie for me.

First of all Groot. Probably Vin Deisels best piece of work. Then baby Groot?? *swoons*
Zoe Saldana, beautiful, talented and terrifying at the same time. And for some reason always painted.
Bradley Cooper has never been cuter than when he is portraying a raccoon.
Dave Bautista was huge and sexy..and seemed sort of like an add on. Drax's character didn't make very much sense to me but at the same time I'm not versed in any Marvel comic books or story lines.

I have had a thing for Chris Pratt since like 2011 and it's so crazy to me that he is now a huge star. The only complaint I have about the movie is that Starlord seemed suspiciously similar to a certain Andy Dwyer. Same sense of humor and quirkiness. I would love to see Chris branch out and explore different styles of acting. I'd love to see more "Zero Dark Thirty" Pratt. But I digress.

I would definitely reccommend Guardians of the Galaxy if you are into superhero movies. If not, it's a great flick to have on the in the background of other activities you are partaking in.

[Movie Review] As Above, So Below

[Includes spoilers]
I love this time of year, not because of the amazing gloomy weather, or impending darkness that is fall and winter, but because of the influx of scary movies as Halloween approaches.

I love a GOOD scary movie.

That being said. As Above, So Below was a lazy attempt at what could have been a great horror movie. The whole documentary-style horror flick, that abruptly explains the whole journey has been done to death and this movie barely stood out among similar titles.

The premise of the story was good. A smart girl is looking to somewhat avenge her fathers dead in search of a hidden artifact that he dedicated his life to finding. Her and a filmmaker and a group of other young people break into the underground catacombs of Paris and end up literally crawling through the gates of hell, despite MANY warning signs that they should not do what they are inevitably going to do anyways, they carry on. Many of them die. A few survive. The movie ends very abruptly.

The scariest part of the movie was imaging yourself in the position of the characters. It was actually a terrifying scenario to be in. Claustrophobia, darkness, and well being in hell.
The majority of the scary parts were actually given away in the trailer.

One thing that really bothers me is when movies take a documentary-style approach is when they add a score and sound effects. It really kills the illusion.

All in all. If you love scary movies, I would recommend watching this movie on Netflix..if you already have an account..and no spend any money trying to do so. Basically it was pretty unmemorable.

Welcome back to Stars Hollow

I woke up kind of 'eh' about today and then something wonderful happened.

GILMORE GIRLS IS COMING TO NETFLIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now let's pretend for a moment that I don't have the first four seasons on DVD.
Gilmore Girls was every nerdy girls coming of age story, basically. Everyone wished they lived in a small town with a single, hot young mom, and then 2 years later wished they were smart enough to get in to Yale and work for the newspaper and become a journalist. Or that could have been just me..

I was like the Rory's understudy...I wished I could be like her but something in my brain couldn't comprehend things like math and tests and clearly people don't just GET IN to Yale..but I liked to think we would've been good friends.

Side Note:
I hate/love how famous Melissa McCarthy is now and will shout at the next person who says, "isn't she the fat lady from Bridesmaids"

NO. She is f*cking Sookie St. James from 6 seasons of this glorious show.

Netflix will drop ALL SEVEN SEASONS of the show on October 1.

If you need another reason to watch it, here are 3:

If you don't understand my excitement, you are just not about that life.

It's raining...

Whenever it rains I like to take a break from being the ray of sunshine that I am and be really moody and melancholy. During this time I like to actively look for new places to live where it never rains..i.e. California, shop online for black long sleeve shirts and leggings and do yoga in the dark.

Enjoy this playlist to make you feel just as distant and moody as I do..when it's raining.
Its a lot of Lana Del Rey...but are you surprised?
